Undulating Currents, A Group Show is an exhibition co-curated by students Brooklyn J. Pakathi and Mekhala Dave and designed by Maria Rudakova that poses the question: How do we begin to engage with our material world in the face of our current ecological crisis, which is characterized by both historical colonial legacy and ongoing capitalist exploitation?
The exhibition focuses primarily on the materiality of oil and water - two of the most exploited resources. Undulating Currents brings together people of the black diaspora, ecofeminists and queer artists to trace decolonial perspectives in hidden narratives and aesthetic sensibilities and to make site-specific struggles visible. Born out of a desire to celebrate black life, Undulating Currents crystallizes moments of resistance by combining storytelling with lived experiences. The exhibition thus opens up possibilities for world-building by interweaving past and present to imagine a future together.
