#voicesfrom is a VIDC initiative to make people from the so-called Global South visible and audible. The project has produced insights into the most diverse local realities in a range of artistic formats; from watercolour, painting, song, photography and performance, to poetry and literature.
The campaign #voicesfrom resulted in an online discussion called “Listening Pauses”, a conversation format in which local and international artists, theorists and activists reflected on the COVID-19 pandemic. Questions addressed included: What are various perspectives and realities of the lockdown? What can we learn from ancient forms of resistance and creative strategies of transformation? What futures do we want to envision? What does a return to normality mean and for whom?
COVID-19 currently has us all in its grip. We will therefor mainly use our contacts and share reports on the situation of people living in countries that are sidelined in the media and which, as it often does, are rarely heard or seen. We will also do it because people in low-income countries will be hit hardest by the pandemic!
