In their joint exhibition, Noor Abuarafeh (b. 1986 in Jerusalem, lives in Rotterdam) and Huda Takriti (b. 1990 in Damascus, lives in Vienna) explore gaps in historiography, in archives and in practices of remembering – topics that are central to the work of both artists. At the philomena+ project space, they will present a lecture performance, film, photography and text. A correspondence in the form of letters serves as a starting point for reflection on the project, forms of collective mourning, testimony, recording and the constantly changing role of archives in the search for truth.
The exhibition presents unfinished works and includes text excerpts, anecdotes, literary references, videos and archive photos. Visitors are invited to enter the exhibition as an active space for reflection and to engage with approaches to artistic processing of history and the refusal of finality that is imposed on objects and meanings.
