Otobong Nkanga's artistic practice includes tapestry, drawing, photography, installation, video, and performance. She is concerned with the complex relationships between people, environment, history, and strategies of redress.

"To understand," she says, "is to draw connections."

Otobong Nkanga (1974 in Kano, Nigeria) is a visual and performance artist living in Antwerp. Nkanga studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. Her work was recognized with a "special mention" at the 58th Venice Art Biennale. She has had solo exhibitions at Villa Arson, Nice (2021), Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin (2020), Tate St. Ives (2019/2020), Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2018), and M HKA, Museum of Contemporary Art, Antwerp (2015). International exhibition participation included the 58th Venice Art Biennale (2019), documenta 14 in Kassel (2017), Biennale of Sydney (2016), the Berlin Biennale (2014), and the Sharjah Biennial (2019, 2013 and 2005).
