Mahan Mirarab is a musician and composer. He grew up in the Iranian capital Tehran and lives in Vienna. He combines elements of chamber music with contemporary forms of jazz. His reinterpretations of Iranian classical music sound as if Mozart played with microtonal maqam melodies.
Viennese musician Mahan Mirarab represents a generation of young musicians with an immigrant background in Europe who are pushing the sonic boundaries of the local music industry and are responsible for more diversity in terms of quality, dialogue and creativity. Mahan defines jazz as a kind of philosophy, a way of solidarity, a fight for one's identity.
In 2022, Mirarab played over 70 concerts around the world. He also released his latest album, recorded during the Corona pandemic. With "Say Your Most Beautiful Word," Mirarab finds a way of articulating himself that goes beyond guitar playing. It's both a call and a guide to confronting and communicating one's feelings - a way of life grounded in trust and culminating in one word: Hope.
