Paris, June 1945. Eric and Margot, two young people, do not know each other, but they share the same fate: both are returning from a place from which no one should have returned: Auschwitz. An empty apartment is the only thing left. They shut themselves off in it, unable to participate in the world that surrounds them. For an entire year, the apartment becomes a sounding board for everything that moves them, everything that is missing, everything that must be painstakingly re-learned or let go of. With the help of music, dance, poetry and humor, they embark on the path back to life.
"Survival Dialogue" is a historical as well as contemporary piece. It deals with the past, but makes references to the present. The simple, rhythmic, even physical style of writing makes the bodies move like music or dance steps, words and bodies accompany the return to life. The story of the piece, although serious, is never without hope. The characters, though haunted by the ghosts of their past, bubble over with vital energy, the power of togetherness, of love, of listening. Although they suffer, they still move forward. They have only one thing left: to flee forward!
