Tamikrest means "junction" or "alliance" in the language of the Kel Tamashek, a traditional nomadic people from the Sahara, also called the Tuareg. It is a fitting name for a band that so successfully combines the values of their timeless culture with the sounds and visions. Traces of blues, psychedelia, and rock flow into Tamikrest's modern interpretation of traditional Tuareg music.

The musicians are originally from Kidal in northeastern Mali; while Tamikrest were able to realize their musical dreams, their families and friends became refugees due to brutal Sharia laws.

Their album "Chatma" landed at number 1 in the European World Music Charts and was represented in countless annual best lists of renowned music magazines worldwide.
