THE Orchestra Baobab? Yes, the very orchestra that disbanded 20 years ago at the height of its career. The cult band was groundbreaking for the music of Senegal and all of West Africa, because it conjured up a hitherto unheard-of mix of the old Senegalese tunes, reggae and Latin. To reunite them now was the task of producer Nick Gold, who had to proceed as with the Blues Brothers. Guitarist Attisso, for example, was now a successful lawyer who hadn't touched an instrument in years. A guitar was sent to his house to get him started. It worked.
