Nour Sokhon

Nour Sokhon, multidisciplinary artist and composer, is the 2025 artist in residence at VIDC - kulturen in bewegung in collaboration with philomena+. Her creative practice focuses on exploring various methods of artistic research, including interviews, field recordings and recorded material from an organised site-specific intervention.

Nour Sokhon's debut album, Beirut Birds, is a sonic time capsule that tells stories of migration and displacement in Lebanon. As part of her multifaceted artistic process, she conducted and recorded interviews—to remember, to share, to heal, and to open new perspectives for the future. These recordings form the core elements of the album—repeating, narrating, and resurfacing over time, while Nour Sokhon responds with instruments and her voice.

In dialogue with her interview partners, she integrates soundscapes into her work, enriched by field recordings from Lebanon and her relocation to Berlin. In her live performances, music merges with visual impressions of Beirut’s urban life and bird migration, creating a layered narrative where these themes become inseparably intertwined with the music.

Nour Sokhon's residency in Vienna is a collaboration between philomena+ and kulturen in bewegung.
