On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Oberwart bombing, a two-month open-air exhibition entitled ‘Kajtalen Romalen’ will take place from 10 February 2025. Curated by Simonida Selimović and the initiative Erinnern in Zukunft (Remembering in the Future), the focus is on the self-representation and resistance of Roma and Sinti. The motto ‘Kajtalen Romalen’ takes a stand against racism and for the visibility of an often-marginalised minority.
In the space between Brunnenpassage and Yppenpark, large-format prints tell the messages ‘Kajtalen Romalen’ / Where are you Rom*nja and ‘So ceren e Gadje’ / What are the non-Rom*nja (majority society) doing. They give Austria's minority languages visibility and invite reflection. Opposite, a mural is presented that addresses resistance and remembrance of the persecution of Roma and Sinti.
A mobile memorial will travel through Vienna, carrying the project's message to various locations in the city. In the evening, a performative reading will take place in the Brunnenpassage with Gilda Horvath and Simonida Selimović.
