Culture X Change # Iran
11. - 15. 05. 2022
Wels
Iran is diverse and rich on many different levels. Even if the headlines in the Western media focus on the dark side of the Islamic Republic, behind it, especially on a cultural level, lie the treasures and influences of a culture that is thousands of years old.
For some time now, numerous artists and cultural workers with close ties to Iran have been living and working in Austria. They have been an integral part of the creative scene for years.
Especially in these challenging times, the dialogue between different views of religion and politics is needed so that this world - not least through the exchange of artistic positions - becomes a better, a more just, a more peaceful one.
Culture X Change #Iran wants to inspire, irritate and encourage people to see the world with different eyes.
Culture X Change #Iran is a co-production of Kulturen in Bewegung /VIDC, schl8hof Wels, Kulturverein waschaecht Wels, Programmkino Wels and Life Travel.
Funded by ADA and Linz AG.

Houchang Allahyari | Portrait
Programmkino Wels, 6 and 8 p.m.
Houchang Allahyari will be present in person. Afterwards there will be a film talk with the award-winning director.
Houchang Allahyari celebrated his 80th birthday last year, which he did not celebrate. "I never actually celebrate my birthday. I don't want to get older, I want to have more time to realize my projects. That's not about the fear of dying. I simply still have a lot to do. I'm not important as a person, my films are. It's practically like with my children," he stated in an ORF interview.
18:00 - Goli Jan - I can't be a girl
His current film "Goli Jan" tells the story of two Afghan youths. They initially flee to Iran and dream of life in Europe. The theme of "flight" continues to preoccupy the human psyche and its constant search for belonging. golijan.at
20:00 - 7 Stories About Love
Together with Babak Behdad, Allahyari dedicates an unusual episodic film to his old homeland: seven stories tell in a variety of ways about the country, its people and (suppressed) longings, about love as an ideal that can at best be approached. A divorced couple forms the starting point for this mixture of REIGEN and TAXI TEHERAN, which mostly takes place in apartments or cars. In between, the city breathes. In the end, some of the characters find themselves at the train station ... A film about farewell and departure, age-wise and moving. (Florian Widegger) sevenstories.at

Gabbeh
8 pm Marienkirche Wels, Herrengasse 2
Gabbeh is not only a hand-knotted carpet. Gabbeh is also a music trio.Ensemble Gabbeh lives in Vienna and is inspired by the same concept: It picks up threads and brings them together. Its musical textures and designs evolve from the open space of improvisation and are rooted in the vital diversity of traditional Iranian folklore. A polyphonic fabric of remembered fragments of Persian children's songs, travel narratives and lifelines and their reverberations in the Viennese diaspora. Two worlds, mirrored many times, broken and put together anew.
Golnar Shahyar - Voice, Percussion Mona Matbou Riahi - Clarinet Manu Mayr - Double Bass
Admission: 10/12/16 Euro
