After their joint rewriting of Bizet, I AM CARMEN AND THIS IS NOT A LOVE SONG, director Paul-Georg Dittrich and singer Hasti Molavian are now developing a cross-genre Joan of Arc project for the darkroom together with video artist Lukas Rehm and composer Christopher Scheuer – Dittrich, Molavian, Scheuer and Rehm founded the music theatre collective HearEyeSayحس. Lukas Rehm programmed three immersive Jeanne d'Arc levels in the style of classic first-person shooter video games, quoting various conflicts in the world (and its history) in which women have distinguished themselves as fighters: the ‘Black Widows’ of the Chechen wars, the Peshmerga (the autonomous armed forces of the Kurdistan region in Iraq) and the Afghan Malalai von Maiwand, who died in 1880. Hasti Molavian draws a diverse portrait of the female holy warrior between reality and game, between the history of reception and real wars.
In the spirit of Schiller, who refused to be bound by convention, the result is a multi-layered, highly musical evening – with live electronics and singing!
Please note: the production contains animated depictions of violence and explicitly addresses violent acts, in particular war crimes. Strong lighting effects are used.
