Description Residence:

what invades my eyes can be a glimpse for those who have not only arrived but have decided to stay

when the daily hell is worse than death and redemption is in a drop of water, bathing in the meeting of the waters is a way in Time.

Finding a path to redemption in artistic creation is the strategy of this Bahian-Brazilian duo that relies on interfaces and digital tools in the production of sonic-visual and web-specific language as indispensable affective fields to experience a plundered past, an inserted future and a present on the brink of death.

Izzadora Sá

is a creator, developer, visual artist and data enthusiast immersed in the experience. Born in the interior of Bahia and raised in Baixada Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. She researches, develops ideas and produces different media and codes related to memories, races, intersectionality, dissidence, colonial critique, immersive technologies and black affectivities that actively promote dissident and powerful narratives, visions and bodies.

Talu Reis

Talu Reis is a researcher, visual artist and activist (human rights and communication) born in Salvador. He grew up between a dialogue between the capital of Bahia and an inland city called Terra Nova. His work aims at visual communication and artistic expressions as strategies to fight epistemic violence. He also believes that this "artvism" focuses on technological practices, gathering actions in the BigData context.

More on the Residency

Meet Smashing Wor(l)ds: residency and living project.

Smashing Wor(l)ds begins with a call: a flash of creation enters our eyes, allowing the emergence of visual and acoustic artistic provocations that sharpen the sensitive devices to develop a collective vision that the technology or medium in which an art makes contact with its audience is also part of the experience of the work.

We have pursued the notion that exhibitions and virtual spaces not only register information and collections, but also tend to resize and redefine their proposals for development and social service.

The possibility of forging new relationships with the audience and engaging gives digital works a cathartic magic that lies in the possibility of participation.

The research and practice in Smashing Wor(l)ds is an approximation with the words that form the imaginations and subjectivities of the groups and collectives of refugees immersed in these intersections, where the recomposition/recreation of the words and their exchange is a mythical endeavor. in the most functional sense of the word: to reinvent ourselves, not only and despite hetero-cisexualized colonial silence, but against it and from our own perspectives.

Throw yourself into the sea. The sea has no borders
Brazilian Portuguese (PT-BR) is very different from European Portuguese (PT-PT), especially in its vocabulary, pronunciation and syntax, which gives different meanings and expressions to the written and spoken language. Brazil is embedded in a political-historical scenario strongly marked by colonialism, which triggers resistance movements of non-hegemonic cultures through its multiple referential manifestations. We of the Black Atlantic are a living parallel, where new vocabularies are constructed daily as tools to combat epistemic violence. This national migration repertoire is reconciled with the studies of the European migration scenario, moment and history during the artistic research of the virtual domain Smashing World.

In this residency, we will seek to explore what elements are part of the digital experience and how these creations support a gradual transformation of the reality of dissident populations marginalized by social structures established in cis-white heterosexual patterns.

Programming, experience, and design are gateways to unlearning and reimagining the reality and representation of feelings of diverse people around the globe. When the sick world demands physical distance, artistic experiments in the digital heal by creating a place of safety and proximity for dissident communities.
