Sababu Festival im Porgy & Bess
Music opens doors, builds bridges, crosses borders. This is how the master of "speaking the balafon" felt when he arrived in Vienna 25 years ago: Music offered him the chance to find happiness in Austria. Many of his friendships are based on what music opens up to us - a bond that is independent of origin, culture or skin color. Musical diversity is the order of the day at the Sababu Festival: jazz, world music, pop improvisation, a cappella, percussion and lots of rhythm await the audience. Each band also performs with host Mamadou Diabaté.

Beat the Silence
Concerts can also be a sensory experience for people with hearing impairments! An inductive hearing system will be installed at Porgy & Bess for the entire duration of the festival and some events will also be held in Austrian sign language.

Sababu
(Bambara, West African language) means opportunity and happiness. And this is also the name of the school in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, which Mamadou Diabaté founded in 2009 and which offers free education to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
