As part of Muslim* Contemporary, Munira Mohamud is curating a one-day film festival and exhibition focusing on the art and culture of East Africa. With a selection of significant short films and a day-long exhibition of music and poetry, the aim is to draw attention to the central role of art in this region and how it shapes us here in the diaspora.

The short films will be shown in the afternoon and provide an insight into the diverse film scene in East Africa. These works impressively show how art in the form of film helps to tell stories from the region and make challenges visible.

In parallel, there will be a day-long exhibition dedicated to the music and poetry of East African artists. This exhibition highlights the strong connection between artistic and social expression in the form of these media.
