Film: REFUGEES WELCOME! at Crossroads Festival for Documentary Film and Discourse
After years of tightening asylum laws, the next government (potentially including HC Strache as Secretary of the Interior) even wants to take things a step further. During the last months more and more people have been deported - even to warzones such as Afghanistan, where they are threatened with death or prosecution. For many refugees, life in Austria gets unbearable and asylum is granted to fewer and fewer people.
How can we bring about change?
Crossroads wants to contribute to the efforts of confronting the current injustice, racism and hate and to help build a society based on solidarity, equality and the freedom of movement for all. Four arresting films will show why people have to leave their homes and come to Europe, what it feels like to be part of a local European community but to be threatened by deportation everyday and how deportations actually work. They will also show how things can be done differently and how refugees can enrich our cities or revitalize regions that struggle with rural depopulation.
